Nanoclays are nanoparticlesof layered mineral silicates. Depending on chemical composition and nanoparticle morphology, nanoclays are organized into several classes such as Montmorillonite, Bentonite, Kaolinite, Hectorite, and Halloysite. Clay minerals are hydrous silicates and may simply be described as fine-grained particles with sheet like structure stacked over one another.
Nanoclay is used in ink formulation.It helps to adjust the consistency of printing inks to the desired value,avoiding pigment sedimentation,providing good colour distribution,obtaining desired film thickness etc. by incorporation of small amount of organically modified layered silicate.The performance of cosmetics is enhanced by use of nanoclay and they allows good colour renention for lipsticks,eye shadows and nail lacquers.
The nanometer sized Montmorillonite clay particles can improve surface integrity and provide advantages in the mechanical and thermal properties of the composites.The interaction between nanoclay and surrounding matrix even though high tensile strength and modulus were obtained.
