Holmium III Nitrate Pentahydrate: Holmium (atomic symbol: Ho, atomic number: 67) is a Block F, Group 3, Period 6 element with an atomic radius of 164.93032. The number of electrons in each of Holmium's shells is [2, 8, 18, 29, 8, 2] and its electron configuration is [Xe] 4f11 6s2. The holmium atom has a radius of 176 pm and its Covalent radius is 192±7 pm.

Holmium III Nitrate Pentahydrate: Similar to all other rare earths, holmium is not physically found as a free element. It does occur combined with other elements in gadolinite, monazite and other rare-earth minerals. Holmium is a comparatively soft and malleable element that is moderately corrosion-resistant and stable in dry air at standard temperature and pressure. In moist air and at elevated temperatures, however, it quickly oxidizes, forming a yellowish oxide. In pure form, holmium possesses a metallic, bright silvery luster.

Nitrate compounds are generally soluble in water. Nitrate materials are also oxidizing agents. When mixed with hydrocarbons, nitrate compounds can form a flammable mixture.

Holmium III Nitrate Pentahydrate: Nitrates are excellent precursors for production of ultra high purity compounds and certain catalyst and nanoscale (nanoparticles and nanopowders) materials. All metallic nitrates are inorganic salts of a given metal cation and the nitrate anion. The nitrate anion is a univalent (-1 charge) polyatomic ion composed of a single nitrogen atom ionically bound to three oxygen atoms (Symbol: NO₃) for a total formula weight of 62.05.

Holmium III Nitrate Pentahydrate: Holmium has the highest magnetic moment of any naturally occurring element and has been used to create the highest known magnetic fields as a pole piece or magnetic flux concentrator. Holmium is used in yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) and yttrium-lanthanum-fluoride (YLF) solid-state lasers found in microwave equipment (which are in turn found in a variety of medical and dental settings).
